Meet Marita

Mrs. Marita Smith has enjoyed a collaborative working relationship with The Well Clinic since 2016.  She is excited to officially become a part of their team.

She earned a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Business from Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.   Mrs. Smith was employed as a chemist in the Soil Testing Laboratory at Louisiana State University. She later served as the Director of the Animal Science Nutritional Research Laboratory at Southern University.

Mrs. Smith’s ultimate love for education and her desire to homeschool led her to pursue a career in the field of education.  She earned an M.Ed. in Counselor Education from Southern University and A & M College with a concentration in mental health.  After graduate school, she was employed as a Psychological Assistant and counselor at the Anchorage Center and later, as a Psychological Associate at the Center for Psychological Health Care.  She did further study at MidAmerica Nazarene University focusing on teaching techniques for students with learning disabilities.

Mrs. Smith has twenty-nine years of experience in the field of education, with specializations in learning development, assessments, educational therapy, consulting, and training.  She is a Licensed Professionally Certified Educational Therapist through the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD).  She is a member of the NILD National Instructors’ team, a conference workshops facilitator, and serves as an educational therapist mentor.  She has participated in two NILD pilot studies.  An article, written by Mrs. Smith, was published in Discoveries, a bi-annual journal of NILD.  In addition, she is a Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Specialist through the International Dyslexia Association.

Mrs. Smith has been in private practice since 2010. She is the NILD-Discovery Program Director at two local Christian schools.

Mrs. Smith is very passionate about helping children who learn differently reach their God-given potential. This passion was born out of her personal experience with dyslexia and a journey to ensure that her two sons with learning differences had the navigational tools to enjoy successful careers in their chosen fields.  This passion, in addition to educational experiences has gifted Mrs. Smith with the ability to help parents get to the root and understand their child’s unique learning profile and learning needs.

Her second passion is ministry.  She and her husband founded The House of Bread Ministries in 2014 as an outreach to their community.

She enjoys bike riding with her husband, preparing unique recipes, attending her husband's motocross races, conquering jigsaw puzzles, playing board games, and spending quality time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
