Meet Janie
Hello, I'm Janie! I believe counseling is a meaningful space where individuals can feel heard and supported as they navigate life's challenges. I find great joy and fulfillment in walking alongside my clients as they navigate their unique journeys.
I earned a Master's degree in Counseling Education with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. During my practicum and internship experiences, I provided counseling services within a fire department, supporting first responders and their dependents. This experience opened my eyes to my passion for working with first responders. During my time at the fire department, I completed multiple ride-alongs and participated in many cultural competency development opportunities, and my experiences allowed me to better understand the unique culture, strengths, and stressors of the first responder population. I also completed internship hours at an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), where I worked with individuals experiencing a variety of concerns related to serious mental illness and substance use.
I enjoy working with college-age individuals, adults, and children as they navigate life transitions, relationships, emotional challenges, and personal growth. I believe each person has a unique story shaped by their experiences, and I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore, process, and better understand themselves. My approach to counseling is collaborative, and I integrate evidence based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-centered therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed approaches, and trauma-informed approaches. I view counseling as a partnership where we work together to identify goals, understand patterns, build on existing strengths, and create space for healing and growth. My hope is that each client feels valued and empowered as they move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my fiance, family, and friends, baking, working out, spending time outdoors, reading, and cheering on LSU baseball!
